ABOUT

Intermezzo
is an impressionistic novella, written by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky (1908).

Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky was a prominent Ukrainian author known for his works that explored the psychological and social aspects of life in Ukraine during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Intermezzo delves into the themes of love, social class, and the inner world of the characters. The novella is set in the Ukrainian countryside, Kononivka, and reflects the rural life and culture of the time

The illustrations were made in the monoprint technique. The main task of this part was to create abstract images with patterns that refer to the main emotion or environment of a particular part of the story.

They guide the reader through the author's feelings without any visual constraints.
Minimalistic editorial style and natural colours of illustrations let the reader be fully present in the picturesque location described in the novel.
